Training on Clinical Management, Outbreak Investigation and Risk Communications of Emerging Infectious Diseases
Two days Training on clinical management, outbreak investigation and risk communications of emerging infectious diseases begins at IEDCR (room no: 310). Professor Mahmudur Rahman, Director IEDCR inaugurated the training program. Dr. Sabbir Haider, Mrs. Shamsi Ara Chowdhury, Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, Dr. A S M Alamgir (TNPO, WHO) and Dr. Ahmad Raihan Sharif were present. The other resource persons who presented on different topics were Dr. Sultana Shahana Banu (PSO, virology), Dr. Kh. Mahbuba Jamil (SSO, virology), and others.
In this batch, forty Medical Officers in-charge of Disease Control (MODC) of different upazilas of Bangladesh is being trained up. The participants are member of their respective upazila rapid response team. The objective of the training is to enhance their skill to control disease outbreak and improve response regarding risk communication. In addition, the participants will be able to identify new or emerging disease agents and train public health staffs. There are many emerging infectious diseases are now prevalent in Bangladesh such as anthrax, dengue, Nipah encephalitis, avian influenza, chikungunya etc. In order to combat against these diseases, it is crucial to acquire update knowledge and respond promptly, and it is expected that, after end of this training session, the trainees will return to their areas and will actively involve themselves in the URRT.

The second batch of three days training of Upazila Rapid Response Team members (RRT) on disease outbreak investigation begins at IEDCR auditorium on 18.10.2011. Director, IEDCR Professor Mahmudur Rahman inaugurated the training program. Besides, Dr. M. Mushtuq Husain (PSO, Medical Sociology), Dr. Md. Feroz Ahmed Khan (PSO, Parasitology), Dr. Mujaddeed Ahmed (WHO), Dr. A S M Alamgir (TNPO, WHO) and Dr Selina Khatun (WHO) were present. The other resource persons who presented on different topics were Dr K Mahbuba Jamil, Dr Sabbir Haider, Dr Mostafizur Rahman, Dr Apurbo Chakrabarty, Dr Farhana Haque and others. The training of first batch started from 15 Oct 2011.
Medical Officers in-charge of Disease Control (MODC) of 125 different upazilas of Bangladesh are scheduled to attend the training program. As IEDCR plays the key role of National Rapid Response Team (NRRT) the institute is regularly training up members of district and upazila RRT. Through this three days intensive training, the trainees will be able to contain the outbreak and prevent further illness, address public concern, reduce direct and indirect costs, identify emerging or new disease agents and train public health staff. A total of five batches will be trained.

Orientation on Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 [Swine Flu] for Health Personnel of Dhaka City Corporation. Training is ongoing to all the Health Centres of Dhaka City Corporation collaboratively run by NGOs. This health centre will be used as health information centre and referral centre during country level 2 & 3 (Pandemic). In this training health personnel are oriented on Management, Infection Control practices and health messages.In 3 batches all the health personnel was trained. Surveillance Medical Officers (SMOs) of WHO also in the training. NGOs will be responsible for sending weekly ILI data.

Inauguration session of Training of Immigration Officials at Zia International Airport on Influenza (H1N1) [Swine Flu] was held on 9th May, 2009 at IEDCR. ADG, Director IEDCR, Additional IG of Police Additional SP of ZIA, Chief Health Officer Airport were present at the session. 310 immigration officers were trained in 10 batches from 9-13 March, 2009
Orientation on Influenza A H1N1 (Swine Flu):
Training on Influenza A (H1N1) [Swine Flu] for Health Care Personnel of Zia International Airport was held on 29 & 30th April 2009. A health support desk started functioning in ZIA on 29th April,09. Health workers from other ports (Chittagong Shah Amanat Airport, Sylet MAG Osmani Airport, Chittagong Sea port, Mongla Sea port, Benapole land port, Hili land port, Tamabil land port and Sona masjid land port) were trained on 2nd May,09 . Health support desk was started on 3rd May,09. This training was conducted by Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), National Influenza Center (NIC), Mohakhali, Dhaka-1212, Bangladesh.
